Membership of Devon Social Group is usually for 12 months, giving you the time to get the best out of your membership, build up a really good circle of friends, and be able to sample the different types of events we offer at different times of the year.
Everyone is asked to join as a member before they take part in anything. We don’t offer free taster events to non-members. Everything we do is above board and honest. We don’t try to con people with worthless offers of “Free Membership” and once we have got your attention, try to force you into paying ever higher membership fees. Our prices are clear, straighforward, and honest.
We are confident of offering the best value for money prices and high standards of customer service, with that all important personal touch. After all, this is supposed to be a “group of friends”, so we do our best to treat you as our friends. We want everyone to join us, and not join anything else, so we’ll always do our best to undercut the prices of any similar organisations – just ask!
To join Devon Social Group, please complete and sign a JOIN FORM, and post this to us, with 2 passport style photos. We can email or post you a JOIN FORM on request. Payment is easy and can be made by card via the telephone or by cheque via the post.
One passport photo is kept on file so we know what you look like, and which is helpful if we are looking out for you. The other passport photo is made into a personalised MEMBER ID CARD and sent back to you – this can be used as proof of identity and for discount prices at various restaurants, hotels, and attractions, saving you money.
EVENT BOOKING FEES
All standard events are available to V.I.P. MEMBERS for FREE, and to BUDGET MEMBERS for as little as just £2.50. Larger events such as outdoor activities and parties are priced accordingly, as these often include more, such as tuition and equipment, or a meal and disco. Social Group Holidays are open to everyone, but all members benefit from big discounts on public prices. All members benefit from group discount prices.
HOW TO BOOK:
BOOKING BY TELEPHONE
To book for events by telephone, please have your DEBIT CARD or CREDIT CARD to hand, and call 08456 121 770 between 12noon and 7pm. Calls to this number are charged at low cost local rates from any UK landline. (From a mobile, you may find it cheaper to call 01822 810120.)
Telephones are open most days, 7 days. We are not open every single day all year round, as sometimes we are out hosting events, running holidays,doing research, or simply taking some time off.
Please note – we are not open for calls about bookings in the morning or late at night. If you want to find out what’s best to book for, please call 12noon – 7pm, thank you.
If you call and get the answer machine, please leave a message, telling us what the call is about, and stating your name and Social Group Member ID. If you leave us a landline phone number, we will call you back as soon as is possible.
If at any time you are unable to reach us by telephone, please book by post.
BOOKING BY POST
To book for events by post, please send a CHEQUE or POSTAL ORDER, with a completed EVENTS BOOKING FORM to the central Social Group office address.
Please use normal 1st class post. Please do not send by registered mail or recorded delivery.
PLEASE BOOK EARLY!
Please do your best to make sure all booking payments are with us well before the stated booking deadlines, thank you.
To avoid disappointment, we always recommend you BOOK EARLY and don’t leave booking until the very last day.
Generally speaking, standard dining out and drinks events need to be be booked at least 4-5 days before, outdoor activities need to be booked at least 7-10 days before, our bigger parties need to be booked at least 7-10 days before, and holidays are best being booked at least 3-6 months in advance in order to secure the cheapest flights.
It’s first come, first served, and some things do sell out – so to avoid disappointment, please book as early as possible!

Once you have booked a place on an event (unless otherwise stated), if you don’t hear from us, you can assume you have a place and everything is fine – we’ll see you out with us on the day!
If there is a problem, we will contact you.
Please note – we make no guarantee that first choices will be available. With us offering such a large number of events, it is inevitable that some will be more popular and some will be less popular.
If it turns out your first choices are not popular enough with other members and we don’t get enough interest for these to go ahead, or if we have late cancellations due to illness, transport problems, or other genuine reasons, and we contact you with alternative events, it is appreciated if you can be flexible and simply choose alternatives from what we offer you, thank you.
If we don’t get enough interest in an event, you won’t lose any money and we will always do our best to find you something else suitable. There’s almost always plenty of other events running!

All Social Group members are sent out a current issue of Social Group Magazine free of charge when they first join. Social Group Magazine includes a glossy magazine “Social” and a local area events listing “Events”.
We aim to provide plenty to suit all ages, all tastes, and all pockets, with lots of choice. What we organise changes from seasonally, and is varied from month to month, offering lots of variety.
For full information on WHAT’S ON, including a write up of the event, plus directions and sat nav post codes, and to be able to benefit from special offer discounts only to be found in Social Group Magazine, members are advised to refer to their current issue of Social Group Magazine.
