DEVON SOCIAL GROUP EVENTS
We offer hundreds of events every year, including social events, dining out, parties, balls, themed events, murder mystery, quiz evenings, indoor activities, outdoor activities, walks, days out, weekend breaks, short breaks, and international holidays!
Events mostly take place in the evenings, at weekends during the day, and on weekend evenings. But we sometimes have midweek lunch time events as well. It’s a mixture. What we offer is varied every month and seasonally. At certain times of the year, there’s lots of outdoor activities. At other times, lots of dining out. At other times, lots of parties. We vary what we do throughout the year, keeping what’s on in Devon fresh and interesting!
Events are held in the big urban areas of PLYMOUTH, TORBAY, EXETER, and BARNSTAPLE on a regular basis. Plus all across the Devon region, including South Hams, Tavistock, Dartmoor, Totnes, Newton Abbot, Exmouth, Sidmouth, East Devon, Tiverton, Mid Devon, Exmoor, Bideford, Ilfracombe, and North Devon.

ACROSS DEVON
PLYMOUTH
Previous events have included meals in and around Plymouth, including everything from low cost pizza evenings, to pub carveries, to Chinese, Indian, and Italian restaurants, to fine dining and bistros. We’ve held numerous dinner & disco parties, including themed parties, tribute evenings, black tie balls, and murder mystery dinners, including The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Legacy Hotel, Boringdon Hall, Kitley, Langdon Court, Holiday Inn, Future Inn, and in the function rooms of various pubs. There’s been lots of entertainment, including cinema, live shows, theatre, and concerts. We’ve done all kinds of nightlife, including most of the bars and nightclubs in the city centre and Barbican. We’ve offered karting, sailing, canoeing, quasar, and ten pin bowling. We toured Plymouth in a VIP Limo. We’ve done behind the scenes tours of the Herald Express newspaper and Theatre Royal. We’ve gone along to firework displays in summer for the National Fireworks Championships and on bonfire night. We’ve had a tour of the stadium at Plymouth Argyle. There’s been several car treasure hunts around the city. There’s been boat trips around Plymouth Sound and weekend breaks across to France via Brittany Ferries. We’ve visited lots of attractions in the area such as the National Marine Aquarium. And much more!
TAVISTOCK, WEST DEVON, & DARTMOOR
Previous events have included lots of meals across the area, including pubs, restaurants, and hotels in Yelverton, Tavistock, Mary Tavy, Okehampton, and Dartmoor. There’s been dinner & disco party nights, murder mystery, dinner parties, black tie balls, and vintage 1920′s parties. We’ve featured pub evenings with live bands at the Mary Tavy Inn. We’ve held lots of pub quiz socials. There’s been games evenings featuring skittles, table football, pool, and table tennis. We’ve been to some of the top local hotels for afternoon tea, including Alex Polizzi’s Endsleigh, Lewtrenchard Manor, and Bovey Castle. We’ve held themed dinners and masked balls at the Bedford Hotel in Tavistock. We’ve done a vineyard tour and wine tasting at Eastcott Vineyard. We’ve had walking with llamas at Belstone. We’ve done car treasure hunts. Outdoor activities have included horse riding, canoeing, treetop adventure course, and falconry, plus lots of walks at Brentor, Lydford Gorge, and all over Dartmoor National Park. And we’ve visited lots of stately homes and attractions in the area.
TORBAY & SOUTH DEVON
Previous events have included meals in South Hams, Dartmouth, Totnes, Brixham, Paignton, Torquay, Newton Abbot, Bovey Tracey, and Teignmouth. Including everything from low cost pizza evenings, to Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Italian restaurants, to fine dining and bistros, and country pubs. There’s been numerous walks along the coast path. Beach socials have included Bigbury, Torcross, Babbacombe, and many more. We’ve held numerous dinner and disco parties, including themed parties, at Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, Dainton Park Golf Club, and The Grand Hotel in Torquay, to name just a few. Our Socialising By Numbers move around between courses at random was very successful. We’ve put on a Blues Brothers tribute evening at Paignton Zoo, raised money for tiger conservation by organising a treasure hunt around Paignton Zoo, done a behind the scenes tour with the zoo’s vet, and enjoyed a 1960′s ‘Boat That Rocked’ themed evening at Living Coasts. We’ve done archery, clay shooting, quad biking, and zip wire at Ashcombe Adventure Centre. We’ve played crazy golf at Paignton and Teignmouth. We’ve done the ‘Round Robin’ steam train and boat trip around Paignton, Dartmouth, and Totnes. And much more!
EXETER & MID DEVON
Previous events have included meals in and around Exeter. Plus Topsham, Cullompton, Tiverton, Crediton, and in numerous country villages. Including everything from low cost pizza evenings, to Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Italian restaurants, to fine dining and bistros, and country pubs. We’ve held numerous dinner & disco parties, including themed parties, tribute evenings, fancy dress, seasonal, black tie balls, and murder mystery dinners, with venues including the Rougemont Thistle Hotel and Exeter University. We held the first ever UK speed dating event at the then Royal Clarence Hotel (now Abode) and had a personal guided tour of the kitchens by celebrity chef Michael Caines himself. We’ve done behind the scenes tours of the Express & Echo, the Met Office, and Exeter Airport. We’ve done Quad Biking and BBQ activity days at Quad World. We’ve been Segway riding and on Go Ape at Haldon Forest. We’ve done cycling and canoeing along the River Exe. We toured Exeter in a VIP Limo. We’ve organised several car treasure hunts. There’s been wine tastings and cookery classes. We’ve done pub skittles, indoor bowls, city guided walking tours, had a guided tour of Exeter Cathedral, organised quiz evenings, and visited the Underground Passages. And much more!
EAST DEVON
Previous events have included meals, including Exmouth, Budleigh Salterton, Ottery St Mary, Honiton, Sidmouth, Seaton, and Axminster. Including everything from low cost pizza evenings, to Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Italian restaurants, to fine dining and bistros, and country pubs. We’ve held numerous dinner & disco parties, with venues including the Woodbury and The Tumbling Weir. We held a masked ball at The Royal Beacon and a James Bond themed ball at Escot Country Hotel. We’ve done several boat party nights with Stuart Line Cruises. We’ve featured Bicton Gardens, Beer Caves, and Seaton Trams. We’ve had pub quiz evenings and a magic evening. We’ve arranged visits to the Norman Lockyer Observatory and treasure hunts at Sidmouth. There’s been lots of walks along the coast path. In Dorset, we featured zorbing near Dorchester and fossil hunting on the beach at Charmouth. There’s been flying lessons, skydiving and parachute jumps at Dunkeswell. We’ve done karting at Mansell Raceway and Raceworld. And much more!
BARNSTAPLE & NORTH DEVON
Previous events have included meals across North Devon, including Westward Ho!, Appledore, Bideford, Fremington, Barnstaple, Great Torrington, South Molton, Braunton, Croyde, Woolacombe, Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, and Lynton. Including everything from low cost pizza evenings, to Chinese, Indian, Thai, and Italian restaurants, to fine dining and bistros, and country pubs. We held a 1920′s vintage dinner party at the Royal Hotel in Bideford. We’ve had numerous dinner & disco Christmas Party nights at Saunton Sands Hotel and The Barnstaple Hotel. We’ve seen musicals and concerts at North Devon Theatres, and comedian Andy Parsons at the Queens Theatre. There’s been surf lessons at Croyde. We’ve held pub quiz evenings. With Skern Lodge we’ve done river rafting and abseiling and high ropes. We featured a murder mystery at Arlington Court. We’ve done pub skittles, ten pin bowling, and karting in Barnstaple, and horse riding and quad biking nearby. We’ve visited lots of attractions in the area such as the Big Sheep and the Ultimate Adventure Centre. There’s been lots of walks along the coast and in Exmoor National Park. And lots more!

What’s on changes every month and is different at different times of the year, with new people joining all through the year, keeping things fresh. What’s on next month will be different to what’s on this month. Our aim is to constantly provide something new and interesting to join in with and enjoy!
TRANSPORT
Except for occasional coach excursions and boat trips, we don’t provide transport. Most Cornwall Social Group members have their own cars. Those who don’t drive get around by train, bus, or taxi. Members often car share and offer lifts to events further afield, sharing petrol costs.
